Mid Century Modern Style, Grotrian Steinweg Model 110 Upright Piano

A 1955, Mid Century Modern style, Grotrian-Steinweg model 110 upright piano with a walnut case and fabric panels. Cabinet typical of Mid Century Modern style. Cabinet design focusses on simple, clean lines and function. The front panels are stepped in constuction with rounded curved corners. The golden, Jacquard fabric panels are in a diagonal criss-cross design and accentuate the sound box of the cabinet. The tapered legs are sabre cut in walnut. Square piano pedals are fixed with minimal, visible brass rods. Piano has an eighty-five note keyboard and two pedals
Modern-style furniture focuses on simplicity. The emphasis is on lines and geometric shapes. It is streamlined and unadorned resulting from the idea that function should dictate form. Neutral colors are often used alongside a mix of man-made materials such as plastic or metal and natural, organic materials such as teak and walnut woods.

Grotrian-Steinweg
Grotrian-Steinweg is a German manufacturer of prestige pianos. The company is based in Braunschweig, Germany. Grotrian-Steinweg's history dates back to 1835 when the first Steinweg piano factory was built by Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (later known as Henry Steinway after his emigration to the US where he founded Steinway & Sons). In 1856, Friedrich Grotrian became a partner. In 1865 his son Wilhelm Grotrian and two associates bought the factory and the right to market their pianos as successors to the Steinweg brand. At its peak in the late 1920s, Grotrian-Steinweg employed 1,000 people and made 3,000 pianos per year.
