Trever Whetstone: Life On The Run |
|
Join us on Friday, 26th October 2018, 6:30pm - 9:00pm to meet the artist Trever Whetstone for an evening of art and poetry with music from Martha Phillips and some homemade pies and peas |
|
Leeds artist Trever Whetstone showcases a series of poetry and landscapes in mixed media. |
Trever's landscapes are the culmination of a now itinerant lifestyle. His canvasses, an act of self-served manumission papers, stand as a declaration of freedom in the face of the establishment, in a world trying to constrict individuality and steamroller into conformity.
Themes of light and dark are strong within his work, seen in the black canvasses, shadows of tombstones, the dancing light in the trees, all autobiographical, mirroring his questioning stance, of the system, of life's meaning, of death..
Now in retirement and on the road, refusing the routine cushion of home comforts, these images and poems stand testament to a life lived less customary and a refusal to toe the line.
Trever invites you to an evening where culture and human ineptitude collide.

About Trever Whetstone
|
Trever Whetstone is a Leeds-based artist. He began painting in the early 70’s after serving in The Royal Engineers as a Tank Driver and attended Leeds College of Art in 1979 specialising as a mural painter. In 1975, Trever opened The Breadline Modern Art Gallery in Rodley which provided a platform for Painters, Sculptures and Performance Artists, at a very low cost. Trever's early morning Milk Round helped finance this scheme. Trever played in a Rock Band "The Sunbeams" which toured around the Leeds area in the early 80's. His gift for songwriting is reflected in this exhibition through his poetry. After a diversion into piano restoration and religion, Trever is now retired and tours the country in a camper van with his wife , Pat. Trever's current landscape work in pastel and pen and ink is a record of this life on the road.
